News from Holzgerlingen, Germany

The city of Holzgerlingen is becoming ever more attractive as a place to live and work. New residential and business districts have led to a rise in population of 1.200 inhabitants since 2003 (total today 12,500). A major housing area presently being built includes four streets named after our sister cities, so that Holzgerlingen now has a street called “Crystal-Lake-Strasse”.

For the first time, a personal letter from Mayor Wilfried Dölker went out to all new citizens this year, inviting them to a reception in the City Hall.

36 clubs, organizations and church congregations took this opportunity to introduce themselves at information counters. The Sister-City Committee Holzgerlingen/Crystal Lake was also represented, and had prepared a large chart showing milestones of the city partnership. Committee members handed out T-shirts and buttons sporting the distinctive logo, as well as information on the committee’s activities, especially the many trips to and from that its members on both sides of the Atlantic have organized for their cities citizens over the past years.

The Sister-City Committee in Holzgerlingen meets regularly once a month for dinner, whether business needs to be conducted or not.

Our last big project was the trip to Crystal Lake planned for Holzgerlingen’s Harmonica Youth Orchestra, the EASY LISTENING at the end of May 2006.
