Gravesites and burial urns found in the area are evidence of a Bronze Age settlement

~ 2500 BC

The statue of a deity from this period unearthed in 1848 is regarded as one of the finest examples of Celtic art ever found

~   100 AD

The Romans settle on the surrounding fields

~    300 AD

The Alemannen tribe drives out the Romans. The city presumably traces its name back to the Alemannen chief Gero (Gero - Gerninga - Gerningen - gerlingen - Holzgerlingen)

Documentation of a gift from King Henry II to the bishop of Bamberg includes first official mention of Holzgerlingen

First evidence of a parish church in Holzgerlingen

1348

Holzgerlingen sold to the House of Württemberg

Reformation

Soldiers of the Wallenstein army take up quarters in Holzgerlingen

1856

Holzgerlingen receives its first post office

1911

Completion of railroad line connecting Böblingen and Dettenhausen

1914 - 1918

World War I results in 91 casualties, 15 missing in action and seven additional war-related civilian deaths

1920

Village supplied with electricity for the first time

1927

Central water supply

1939 - 1945

World War II exacts 291 casualties, missing in action and civilian deaths. Heavily damaged by British and American bombing raids, Holzgerlingen later falls under French occupation

1948

Beginning of post-war reconstruction of village. A small flourishing community with schools and infrastructure develops from the former farming village

1957

950-year jubilee

1993

Holzgerlingen granted official status as a "city"

1996

Crystal Lake and Holzgerlingen became Sister Cities

2006

20 years Mayor: Wilfried Dölker

2007
